Originally released in 1999, American Farmer is a folk/alt/singer-songwriter album by Minnesota songsmith, Mark Schirmacher.
The original CD was recorded on a "Fostex XR7 Multitrack Recorder" at numerous different apartments in South Minneapolis, and my parent's house in Robbinsdale with the help of Darren Fisher on Drums & Percussion, and Christopher Mester on Piano & Vocals. It was delivered to the CD manufacturer and 100 copies (unmastered) were pressed.
The artwork for each CD was handmade by me, via screen printing technology which I discovered and perfected (haha) during the process, using ink, screens, high-watt light bulbs, emulsion, and ink rollers. Quite an education. I made 100 copies of the screen print, each a little different, tossing out probably 30 of them because of awful innacuracy and process disfunction.
The photo used for the screen print is of my uncle Ken Abrahamson, one of my favorite people on the planet, a remnant of the Great American Farmers who farmed the vast midwest in call to feed the greater United States with wheat, corn, and various field crops in the 1970's - 90's. Eventually gobbled up by Big Ag and the need (market demand?) for corn-as-car-fuel, the American Farmer is almost obsolete now, but Ken and his soft, caring spirit lives on in this collection of roughly recorded folk songs from the heart and mind of a then-27 yr. old man.
The original liner notes are available in the CD (a few are left for sale here) and included in the "Album Credits" section below.

Song info:
WE ALL KNOW BETTER *** this one was recorded further on down the line at darren's pad. candlelight, separate track for bass drum, finally found the right harp.
SUN SWARMS IN *** penned nineteen ninety eight on 26th & 3rd. about stuff, the world, the past. basic tracks done at my folks house, a gorgeous piano, the rest at kenwood minor.
BUTTONS & BONES. y** we could never have tested the a bomb on Cleveland, they look too much like us.
FARM - this goes back a few years, some immigrants could tell you.
kenwood manor, beer and allergies. if anyone actually ran a farm like this it wouldn't fly. but a moonlight walk sounds pretty nice, risht?
EAT A PEACH ** written unwittingly by sarah scherschligt and put to music later. a notebook of mine at the beach followed a chess game, made a dark love elegy of it. darrens drum work here makes it.
RESIDUE ERMOTE (DOUBLE VISION) *** a pilot light waiting for the house to be returned to. someone focusing too hard on a moving train, recorded at kenwood manor.
PSALM ONE also recorded at kenwood, following the footsteps of great king david, playing songs for the king, chasing the demons away
DUSTCLOUD IN THE RAIN *** another older tune, about a man running to avoid his own mind. darrens pad after a night of recording. i began playing it and he promptly chimed in. recorded for kicks it turned out ok, kulimba came later.
